Sarajevo

The B&H Parliament House of Representatives did not make a decision on single passports. The SDP representative, Sejfudin Tokic demanded replacement of the Deputy Chairman of the B&H House of Representatives. The session ended after a break, due to the lack of quorum. Reported by Amarildo Gutic.

Sarajevo

The Federation Government adopted a draft Law on mediation in employment and social security of the unemployed. The Law has been in the procedure for two years, Mirna Sadikovic reported.

Yugoslavia

According to the Federal Election Commission, Vojislav Kostunica won 48% of votes, while Milosevic won 38%. The Commission announced that a new election round is needed, which should take place on 8th October. Democratic opposition organised protests against the second election round. NATO decided that no special action of their forces is needed in Yugoslavia. The US Ambassador in the UN; Richard Holbrooke announced removal of sanctions against Yugoslavia, when the opposition takes over the power. The report was produced by Zeljka Lekic.

Sarajevo

The OSCE organises the November elections in B&H, because of non-existence of the Election Law. The Head of the OSCE Mission in B&H, Robert Barry hopes that these will be the last elections in B&H, organised by the OSCE. Reported by Vedran Persic.

Banja Luka

The Director of the European Bank for the Balkans, Henry Russel visited Banja Luka today, announcing a new strategy of the Bank in B&H. According to Mr. Russel, the European Bank is interested in participation in privatisation process in the RS. Mr. Russel mentioned possibility of direct investments in infrastructure of municipalities and towns. Biljana Arsic produced the report.

Vitez

The Federation Chamber of Commerce organised a session in Vitez. Among others, elements for closing contracts with the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Chamber were adopted, in accordance with the Statute. Reported by Vanja Elezovic.

Banja Luka

The Chairman of the RS Assembly, Petar Djokic organised a consultative meeting with heads of clubs of representatives. Mr. Djokic said that the regular RS Assembly session would take place on 17th October.

World

According to the Coast Guard, 66 bodies have been recovered after sinking of the Greek boat in the Aegean Sea. The Captain and three crew members were accused of multiple murder.

OPEC member countries advised the EU not to use their strategic reserves of oil.

Danish citizens voted on introduction of EURO in their payment system.

At least 30 Israeli policemen and several Palestinians were injured in clashes in Jerusalem.

The Court in Jakarta refuted allegations for corruption against the former Indonesian President Suharto. Adis Saranovic reported on current world events.

Employees of one of “Energoinvest’s” departments announced a hunger-strike. They demand five monthly salaries and increase of delivery of the material to clients, Anes Alic reported.

Banja Luka

All public kitchens of the Red Cross in Banja Luka were closed in April. The only remaining kitchen is the kitchen of the aid agency “Merhamet”, which also has numerous financial problems. About 4000 people use the kitchen.
