BiH CoM passes amendments to law on old foreign currency savings, reducing payment period to 13 years, setting fixed interest rate
| FTV – The BiH Council of Ministers held the extraordinary session on Monday and passed several amendments submitted by the state parliamentarians to the Law on old foreign currency savings. Among other things, CoM accepted the amendment to change the name of the law, which is now called the Law on settling obligations on basis of the account of old foreign currency savings. Additionally, CoM also endorsed a reduction of the payment period to 13 years [instead of 15], setting fixed interest rate to 2.5 % for bonds, and the amendment regarding the role of the BiH Central Bank. CoM also accepted the amendment that tasks BiH to help the savers with savings in banks with offices outside BiH territory. Explosion device set under the vehicle of police-officer in Trebinje
| RTRS – On Sunday evening an unknown person activated an explosive device under vehicle owned by Slavko Drapic, employee of the Trebinje Police station, which was parked in the vicinity of his family house in the settlement of Suncani Brijeg in Trebinje. The explosion caused great material damage to the car, but no person was injured. RTRS reports Drapic works as a police officer engaged in fighting crime. VL: Witness confirms ‘Covic and others’ were framed
| Vecernji List, pg 3 ‘Witness confirmed conspiracy against Covic’, by Zoran Kresic – In continuation of trials in the ‘Covic and others’ case before the BiH Court (Dragan Covic and other defendants were charged with embezzlement) held on Monday, former Deputy Director of FBIH Customs Administration (FBIH CA), Fuad Kasumovic, admitted it was the former Director of FBIH CA, Zelimir Rebac, and part of ‘international administration’, who rigged the charges and evidence in order to destroy Covic and ‘Lijanovici’ company. Kasumovic claims it was Rebac personally who wrote the disputable ‘opinion’, which Covic allegedly wrote to free ‘Lijanovici’ from paying customs duties. DL: BiH Prosecution questioning HNC MoI official re alleged illegalities in the HNC MoI

Popovac – DL learns from a source in the BiH Prosecution that the Prosecution has started questioning senior officials of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Interior Ministry in relation to the ongoing investigation about alleged illegalities in the MoI. Members of the FBiH MoI raided the HNC MoI premises in November 2005 and January 2006 looking for evidence on alleged illegal payment of salaries to people who are not employed by the MoI and suspicious procurement of vehicles for the MoI etc. Prosecution’s spokesperson, Edita Pejovic, could not comment on the investigation for time being. |
Former RS Customs Administration director sentenced to 3 months imprisonment | Nezavisne Novine pg 6 ‘Three months imprisonment to Popovic’ – Goran Popovic, former Director of RS Customs Administration (who was charged with office abuse and having damaged RS budget for BAM 324 thousand on 24 April) Monday admitted guilt and plea bargained with Banja Luka District Prosecution, on basis of which Banja Luka Court Council sentenced him to 3 months imprisonment and ordered him to pay BAM 6 thousand. (NOTE: Popovic was temporarily removed from office in June 2004 through HR’s decision; in January 2006, HR Ashdown lifted the ban against him.) |
