FBiH Police, EUFOR raid ‘Lijanovici’ premises 

 

 

BH Radio 1 by Emil Karamatic – FBiH police and EUFOR have raided the premises of ‘Lijanovici’ meat industry near Siroki Brijeg this morning about 6 am. The owners of the company – four Lijanovici brothers – have been indicted by the BiH Prosecution for several crimes including tax evasion and bribing. Mladen Ivankovic, also a president of the party ‘Working to Prosperity, has commented this police presence in the company is an act of the intimidation against company and a political pressure against the party. BiH Prosecution and the BiH Court did not want to comment to the action.

Meeting of ‘Igman initiative’ starts in Belgrade

 

RHB, BH Radio 1 – The meeting of the ‘Igman initiative’ has commenced in Belgrade this morning. The BiH delegation is headed by the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Borislav Paravac, and the meeting is also attended by the Presidents of Croatia and SCG, Stjepan Mesic and Svetozar Marovic respectively. Presidents are expects to sing the joint statement titled ‘Trilateral view on the presence and future’, which lists the open questions in the relationship between the regional countries as well as their solutions. This is the 10th session of the Initiative, which gathers 140 NGOs, which will focus at mostly issues related to culture.

Agriculture producers block Doljani border crossing

BH Radio 1 – The representatives of the BiH Association of Farmer have blocked Doljani border crossing this morning. At the same time, the group of them has continued the protests in front of the building of joint institutions in Sarajevo.

RS PM expects solutions on police reform/PBS until end of November

 

SRNA news agency – RS Prime Minister, Pero Bukejlovic, stated today in Banja Luka he expects solutions regarding the police reform and PBS to be found by the end of November. He also expects RS not to be declared as the obstructionist in police reform, adding RS Government works towards unblocking the process. Bukejlovic concluded he hopes “the other side will soften” and the solution agreeable to all parties will be found soon.

Kovacevic – The joint burial of 59 identified victims of the crimes committed in Prijedor [57 Bosniaks and 2 Croats] was organized in Kozarac on Sunday. Their bodies were identified in Sanski Most, where approximately 700 bodies are still waiting for the process. FTV – The persons were killed in Prijedor thirteen years ago, during the war in BiH, mainly in concentration camps in the area – Omarska, Keraterm, Trnopolje and Ljubija Stadium. BHT 1 – So far two person were sentenced for the crimes committed in PrijedorMunicipality: Radoslav Brdjanin was sentenced to 32 years in prison and Milomir Stakic to a life-time prison sentence.

Dnevni Avaz pg 9 ‘RS must accept responsibility for crimes’, mentioned on cover, by M. Zgonjanin – RS Vice President, Adil Osmanovic, stated that the crimes were committed in the RS territory and by RS institutions, thus the entity has to face them and accept responsibility.

RTRS – Chair of Prijedor Municipal Assembly Azra Pasalic stated at the occasion that the path of the truth is the only path towards the reconciliation and forgiveness. Osmanovic stated that the war crimes committed cannot be justified in any way.

US HoR to discuss Srebrenica Resolution today; Reactions by Serbian politicians

 

BHT 1, FTV, Vecernje Novosti pg 5 ‘Washington full of Srebrenica’ by Dubravka Savic – The US House of Representatives will discuss the Resolution on Srebrenica on Monday. The Congressmen are expected to adopt the resolution that describes crimes in Srebrenica as the worst atrocity during the war in between 1992 and 1995. Similar resolution has been adopted by the US Senate on Friday and its states Srebrenica massacre was committed with the support of the former Yugoslavia official authorities.

Vecernje Novosti pg 5 ‘There were other crimes as well’ by S. Remic – carries reactions of Serbian politicians (Dusan Petrovic, Sanda Raskovic – Ivic, Aleksandar Vucic, Cedomir Antic, Vuk Draskovic, Radoslav Stojanovic) on the announcement that US House of Representatives would discuss Srebrenica resolution. The politicians mostly agree crimes were committed in Srebrenica, however they believe this was not genocide and they think individuals should be held responsible.

FTV, Oslobodjenje pg 2 ‘Srebrenica and Zepa to be again given status of protected zones’ by Fena, Dnevni Avaz pg 8 – The association “Mothers of Srebrenica and Podrinje” thanked the US Senate, which unanimously adopted the resolution on Srebrenica which clearly states that Serbia has committed an aggression against BiH, and that there was genocide in Srebrenica. They have also asked the BiH authorities to initiate re-establishment of Srebrenica and Zepa as protected UN zones “as the transitional solution until the complete reintegration” of the country.

Dnevni Avaz pg 4 ‘Radovan Karadzic between East Bosnia and Montenegro’ by L.S., Nezavisne Novine pg 6 ‘Hiding of Radovan Karadzic costs 200,000 US dollars per month’ by N. N., Glas Srpske pg 3 ‘Radovan as hero’ by Tanjug – British newspapers ‘Observer’ published on Sunday that Radovan Karadzic is hiding under the protection of the secret network of people consisting of politicians, criminals, spies, businessman and priests of Serb Orthodox Churcvh. Today, says Observer, he hides in the region between East Bosnia and Montenegro . The article, based on talks with a number of officials and diplomats in BiHand field visits, says that Karadzic spends 80% of his time in the property of the Church.  Article also says that hiding of Karadzic costs 200,000 $ per month.

RTRS – The RS Minister of Interior Darko Matijasevic stated that RS MoI will arrest all war crime suspects, Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic included, if it receives information on their whereabouts in RS. He added that the RS MoI maintains good cooperation with the security agencies in BIH and SCG as well as representatives of international community.

Nikolic: ‘Hundreds Bosniak civilians killed in Kravice’

Avdic According to Jovan Nikolic Jole few hundreds Bosniak civilians were killed in Kravice near Bratunac on July 13 and 14, 1995. Oslobodjenje explains that Nikolic is a war crime suspect for the crimes committed in Srebrenica in 1995 and he was arrested during the last RS Ministry of Interior action. According to the article, after a two-day detention and questioning Nikolic was released.

Terzic says he is interested whether the parties are ready to go alone in the reforms without participation of various UN and OHR’s commissions, including the police reform. “If they are not ready for reforms, they probably will ask for a new chairman [of the BiH Council of Ministers], because I am not ready to spend my mandate on things that do not take BiH to the EU”, says Terzic. He also notes that he would not be resigning: “I have reasons to ask from the parties of the parliamentary majority, if we cannot reach a consensus on reform programs, to find new solutions and vote on the vote of no confidence, thus coming to a situation to appoint new ministers and chairman and in that way I would leave this project”.

I assume the way out is, as I already said, is to fill the CoM with experts from the RS and continue with our reform course”. Questioned whether he had the support to fill in the vacant ministerial posts with the experts from RS, Terzic says: “If you are asking me if I have the support of the Parliament, I think I do not, but we will see…Political subjects from the RS should realize it is a good bypass until next elections”.

Vele – Croat member of the BiH Presidency, Ivo Miro Jovic, commented that the situation in the country following failure of the parties to reach an agreement last Friday in Doboj “was very difficult”. In statement for DA, Jovic says: “Both sides must make concession in continuation of the talks in Sarajevo with a goal to find solutions… I do everything and will continue to do everything in Sarajevo to connect those two sides.”

KlincovBeriz Belkic, a member of the Presidency of the Party for BiH, Sunday stated this party would assess whether it starts to participate in creation of crisis and it would consider whether it would remain on power. He announced the party would on Monday (today) hold a session to discuss CoM crisis. BiH public is only talking about new crisis that are actually just a wall that protects the current authority from failures. Although they brag about defence reform, customs reform, intelligence reform and judiciary reform, all these projects have suffered a fiasco.

Ril expects he will become new BiH Deputy Foreign Minister on June 29

 

Vecernji List, pg 5 ‘It will be challenge to carry out re-organization of BiH Foreign Ministry’, mentioned on front ‘We cannot do anything without good neighbors’, by Miso Relota – Carries an interview with Anton Ril, who has recently been mentioned as the likely candidate to assume the post of BiH Deputy Foreign Minister. Mil expects he will be appointed to the said post at a session of the BiH Council of Ministers that is scheduled for June 29.

Cavic: they are trying to overthrow RS by Srebrenica

He also stressed ‘we must not allow a serious political crisis just before the anniversary of the Dayton Agreement’ because this would give additional arguments to those who plead for abolishment and revision of the Agreement. With regard to Srebrenica, Cavic said it had been politically used to introduce constitutional reorganization of BiH and abolishment of RS on “back door”.

International Association BiH 2005 conference in Geneva to gather 100 experts

 

Oslobodjenje, pg 6, mentioned on front ‘Conference in Geneva a hope for BiH’, by A. Prlenda – reports that the International Association BiH 2005, which is chaired by a former High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch, is announcing a conference that will be held in Geneva in October 2005 that would gather around 100 experts and intellectuals, who would be discussing solutions “for BiH’s happier future”. The Association’s Executive Director, Christophe Solioz, says the conference will have 12 discussions covering the whole spectre of social-political life such as state building, application of constitution, economy, education, culture and science. Solioz announces that the current HR, Paddy Ashdown, and his successor, whose name is not made public yet, will attend one of those discussions. “That discussion will speak about the transfer of authorities within the international community. We want to present the new High Representative with effective solutions”, says Solioz.

Working group on law on agency for medicines again ceased working

Dnevni List, pg 5 ‘Black market of medicines expanding in BiH’, by Tanja Dragic – DL learns from the BiH Council of Ministers that the Working Group (WG) for making of (BiH) law on agency for medicines again stopped working. According to an advisor to BiH CoM, Bojan Zec Filipovic, the WG stopped working because it could not reach an agreement about the location of the future agency, whether to place it in Banja Luka or Sarajevo . He notes that the issue of location could be resolved by the BiH CoM.

Sehercehajic – At the session of the Federation of BiH House of Peoples, that is to take place on Monday (today), amendments to the proposal of the law on war laureates and members of their families should be discussed. According to the article, the Association of Federation of BiH Laureates will demand to classify the BiH Army order ‘Zlatni Ljiljan’ in a special category whose holders would be receiving financial assistance amounting to 60 % of the average FBiH salary. President of the aforementioned Association Ahmed Sejdic stated that this means that ‘Zlatni Ljiljani’ would be receiving for 10 % higher financial assistance than other laureates. Commenting on this proposal President of the Croat Caucus Mato Franjicevic stated that this amendment is not acceptable for the Croat Caucus. 

Nacional: CIA chief demanded from HR to arrest Al-Q’Aida members who found refuge in BiH

 

Srpski Nacional cover pg splash ‘CIA is not searching for Karadzic but for 936 terrorists’ and pgs 2-3 ‘America cleanses Bosnia from terrorists’ not signed – CIA director, Porter Gos, visited Sarajevo on Saturday, held an informal meeting with OSA Director Almir Dzuvo and, according to Nacional, he delivered an order to HR Paddy Ashdown and ‘Bosnian-Muslim leadership to handover all terrorists who had found a refuge in Bosnia’. According to Nacional, Gos brought a list of 936 Al-Q’Aida terrorists and handed over a demand for an arrest and extradition of some of those to HR Ashdown.

US Embassy without comment on Gos’ visit

 

Dnevni Avaz pg 4 ‘US Embassy has no comment on visit by CIA Director’ by L.S. – DA follows up on its cover splash story published on Sunday [see BiH Media Round-up for June 26] which says that the CIA Director, Porter Gos, spent several hours in Sarajevo. DA says this is still unconfirmed while the US embassy did not want to comment.  

Hunger strike of 4 prisoners in Zenica prison update: Strasbourg court considering the case

 

Dnevni List, pg 7 ‘European Court in Strasbourg considering lawsuits’, by NINA, Vecernji List, pg 3 ‘Strasbourg court considering case’, by bs – Report that the European Human Rights Court in Strasbourg has taken into consideration the lawsuit that families of four prisoners (who are currently on hunger strike in Zenica prison) filed against the FBiH and FBiH Justice Ministry over torture and inhumane behaviour that is being applied in the Zenica prison.

Kovac: FBiH got around laws

 

Glas Srpske pg 2 ‘The Federation got around laws’ by G. Dakic – carries an interview with BiH Justice Minister Slobodan Kovac, who explained backgrounds of the issue of Zenica prison inmates and he said the file on “Zenica case” was forwarded to BiH Presidency and he will forward it to OHR and BiH Parliament as well at the beginning of this week. He claims he had brought the decision on transfer of inmates on the basis of the Law on execution of crime sanctions, which came in force in March this year. Kovac says RS and F BiH were obliged to harmonise their legislation with this law within 90 days and, since they have failed to do so, he had to intervene because human lives were in question.

Decertified police officers: revision of decertification or hunger strike

Oslobodjenje pg 4 ‘Establish commission or hunger strike’ – The Association of the Decertified police officers from FBiH has stated on Sunday that if BiH Parliament at the next session fails to adopt the proposal on establishing the commission to revise the de-certification process in BiH, their members as well as colleagues from RS will commence with hunger strike.

Vecernji List, pg 2 ‘IPTF issued certificates to criminal suspects’, by Dejan Jazvic, Branka Stevandic – In light of recent operations in the Podrinje area, when reportedly several active police officers got arrested in connection with committing of war crimes, the article is contesting the process of issuance of police certificates as carried out by the UN IPTF, wondering how it was possible that war crimes suspects get certificated, whilst some police officers, charged with excessive use of forces, were denied the certificate.
