The High Representative, Carlos Westendorp, has received the design for the Convertible Marka Currency and has accepted the recommendation of the Governor of the Central Bank, Peter Nicholl. In doing so, he has taken into account as many of the Presidency proposals as could be accommodated.

Early this morning the RS National Assembly elected a new Government. As a result, the constitutional crisis that developed in the RS throughout last summer has been resolved through the democratic process. The people of the RS exercised their democratic rights in electing a new National Assembly in November.

The Bonn Peace Implementation Council has invited the High Representative "to establish a process leading to a decision on a new flag and symbols if the parties cannot agree on their own by 31 December 1997".

In the run up to the second Constituent Session of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, the OHR wou1d like to point again to the following paragraph in the Contact Group Statement given in Washington on 8th January 1998:

Minister Lajic and Minister Despotovic, representing their respective Prime Ministers, today signed an agreement between the governments on Co-operation in the field of Mine Action.
