We are meeting at an opportune time – in the aftermath of the general election. The change in the political environment brought about by the election has been incremental, but as we enter the phase of forming new authorities we can nonetheless take advantage of the momentum that comes from a fresh start, even a modest fresh start .

Honouring our colleagues, who died here 17 years ago, we reflect on their commitment and the commitment of all those who are working for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s recovery .

We are here to witness the burial of the mortal remains of war victims from the Kozarac region. The enormity of the crimes committed in this region, the profound grief that loved ones have borne for so many years – these are things that are impossible to put into words.

Economic coordination, effective export promotion and investment promotion, pension reform, labour-tax reform and a corruption clean-out – there is no mystery about what must be done.

This year’s “International Business Forum” takes place at a dramatic and testing time for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It was on 22 May 1992 that the UN General Assembly – without a vote – accepted Bosnia and Herzegovina as a member to the United Nations.
