High Representative appoints new Supervisor of Brcko District

The High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch, has today appointed Ambassador Gary Matthews his Deputy and Supervisor of the District of Brcko. The appointment goes into effect on Friday June 2.

Well acquainted with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Matthews was most recently the Director of the OSCE Regional Center in Mostar.

Following a distinguished Military Career, he joined the United States Foreign Service where he held a number of high levels posts, serving as Ambassador to Malta and Special Coordinator for the Soviet Union and East Europe. He also worked in Germany, Poland, Vietnam and Russia.

Ambassador Matthews is a history graduate and has completed post-graduate studies in political science and in international affairs.

The High Representative takes this opportunity to welcome Ambassador Matthews and wish him all the best in his new position, and to express his gratitude to Ambassador Farrand for his work in setting up the District of Brcko, and in promoting the goals of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
