High representative Christian Schmidt condemns attempts to politicize court proceedings and to undermine constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina

“Recent and obvious attempts to politicize a court case in order to undermine the constitutional order of the State of Bosnia and Herzegovina are deeply troubling,” High Representative Christian Schmidt stated.

The abuse of the institutions of Republika Srpska in the interest of one person represents a dangerous step backward. It is in the interest of all citizens across Bosnia and Herzegovina – whether in the Federation, Republika Srpska, or Brčko District – that local political leaders and the international community, including institutions established by Dayton – the High Representative and EUFOR, act in a way that upholds the country’s Constitution and ensures its continued stability and progress toward Euro – Atlantic integration.

The High Representative continues to monitor developments closely and will not hesitate to take measures as he judges necessary to ensure implementation of the Peace Agreement throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina and its Entities.

All in Bosnia and Herzegovina must understand that no individual stands above the law. Everyone, regardless of their name or position, has the right to a fair trial but also the obligation to comply with court decisions. This is the essence of the rule of law.
