At a roundtable held today in Sarajevo entitled “Police as a Service to the Community”, the Chairman of the Police Restructuring Commission, Wilfred Martens invited representatives of BiH non-governmental organisations and law enforcement experts to assess the way in which Law Enforcement agencies interact with the communities they serve.

I am delighted to be here today to mark an important day for this country. Later in the week we will open the Mostar Bridge. That is a big moment of closure on our war torn past. Today we are placing the keystone in the architecture of law and order, which will protect us in the future.

The goal of this Commission is clear: to help BiH put in place a police structure that will be effective, efficient, and enforce the rule of law. Let me be blunt.
