OHR-a and PIC statements on police restructuring

Political Directors of the Peace Implementation Council Steering Board met in Brussels on 26 and 27 February 2008. The Presidency of BiH, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers as well as leaders of the governing coalition were present during parts of the meeting.

At its meeting today in Sarajevo, the Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council at Ambassador level welcomed the initialling of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement.

In Brussels late last night the High Representative and EU Special Representative in BiH, Miroslav Lajčak met the Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana.

Political Directors of the PIC Steering Board met in Sarajevo on 18 and 19 June 2007. The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the Chairman of the Council of Ministers participated in the meeting.

The Office of the High Representative has received last night’s RSNA conclusions and is examining them carefully. At this point in time, we can only offer preliminary comments. In particular, we note that the RSNA suggests a renegotiation of the October 2005 Agreement.

High Representative and EU Special Representative, Christian Schwarz-Schilling, will meet with Olli Rehn, the European Commission for Enlargement, in Sarajevo tomorrow to discuss BiH’s progress in meeting the criteria for signing a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the European Union.

Many of you may have questions relating to the IC/OHR view of the meeting that took place in Srebrenica yesterday and the conclusions that there adopted by the participants. OHR/EUSR will be attending the informal talks on police reform, which are being held today at the request of the BiH political parties at the residence of the German Ambassador in Sarajevo. OHR/EUSR welcomes the interest of leaders to continue talks and we stand ready to assist. However, the international community is also looking for results.

The PIC Steering Board met in Brussels on 26 and 27 February 2007. As part of its session, it held meetings with the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Chairman of the Council of Ministers.
