OHR’s Statement at the International Agency’s Joint Press Conference
BiH Law on Railways should be adopted as soon as possible
The Principal Deputy High Representative Donald Hays will tomorrow meet on the train BiH and entity railway officials as well as directors of strategic companies. En route from Zenica to Tuzla via Doboj, the issue of upgraded railway system in order to help businesses will be raised.
The separation of infrastructure management and investment functions along entity lines for the network that is only 1030 km long is a critical constraint that prevents the economic viability of railways in BiH and their ability to offer optimal services in a niche that can be best served by railways. This division creates inefficiencies that BiH cannot afford.
That is why the BiH law on Railways that has been in preparation for more then a year needs to be completed and adopted by the Council of Ministers and Parliament Assembly as soon as possible.
Detailed Media Advisory will be issued during the day.
