Supervisor Amends the Statute of Brcko District

Brcko Supervisor Susan Johnson issued a Supervisory Order amending the Statute of Brcko District of BiH to establish a separate position of Vice-Mayor who will not at the same time be a Head of Department.

The separate position of Vice-Mayor without concurrent responsibilities as Head of a Department is intended to strengthen the Mayor’s Cabinet and to increase the general level of efficiency of government. The Vice-Mayor will assist the Mayor in exercising his duties and represent the Mayor in his absence, and will have specific responsibilities worked out with the Mayor.

Late last year, the Supervisor told councilors that she supported the separation of the Vice Mayor position from that of Head of Department and would at some point be prepared to take action in this regard.  Supervisor Johnson had hoped that the District Assembly would be able to adopt this amendment itself to support Government’s reorganization effort.

The Supervisor has tasked the Government and Assembly of Brcko District to undertake all necessary measures to ensure implementation of the amendments.
